Discover the key milestones that have defined Ford Agency Inc as a trusted name in the insurance industry. Our journey reflects a commitment to innovation and community service through the years.
1935: Alfred W. Ford purchases the Caperton Insurance Agency and renames it Ford Insurance Agency. At the time, the agency represented only Travelers Insurance Company, which remains a leading partner to this day. Alfred Ford serves as President and Owner.
1939: Herbert M. “Buzz” Ford, Jr. joins the agency and later becomes a partner, helping shape the company’s early direction.
1935–1948: During this period, the agency is operated by just four individuals: Alfred Ford, Buzz Ford, Patsy Sheally (Secretary/Treasurer), and Mary Nelson Batte (Patsy’s sister).
1948: Fred C. Morene joins the team in July and later serves as President for 15 years, guiding the agency through a significant period of growth.
1950s–1960s: The business continues to expand, leading to a relocation to larger offices. It is during this move that the company becomes incorporated, adopting the name Ford Agency, Inc. At the same time, a Real Estate Department is added to the organization.
1966: George W. Mahaney, Jr. joins Ford Agency, Inc. to support the growing insurance division and later serves as President for 9 years.
1973: Michael L. Mahaney, George’s brother, joins the firm to assist with the Real Estate Department. He currently serves as President and Secretary, overseeing the Real Estate operations.
2025: Ford Agency, Inc. employs 13 professionals, including 12 licensed real estate agents, and represents approximately 15 insurance carriers. The agency proudly serves the Tri-Cities of Virginia and surrounding communities, including: Hopewell, Prince George, Fort Lee, Surry, Dinwiddie, Chesterfield, Chester, Enon, Petersburg, and Colonial Heights.
